Using adsense or another pay per click form of advertisement is so easy to set up that almost everyone uses them at some stage.
There is a common thought among people that If you have a blog you may as well throw up a few adsense banners, a few cents (or more) never hurt anyone. So why not???
Well here are two reasons:
Don’t use adsense if you are using affiliate ads on the same page- a sale from an affiliated product will more likely earn more than one click on an ad out of your site. So why offer an alternative to your potential customer so that they can leave your site only to buy the product through someone elses affiliated link?
Don’t use adsense if you are selling your own products, even if for example you have a blog that you use to promote the website you sell your products on, do not add adsense to the blog, adsense ads are targeted so unless your blog mentions things that are completely unrelated to your products, you are going to get similar ads to your product displayed on your blog which defetes the purpose of having a blog to promote your stuff.
Having said all that I have a website which displays both affiliate ads and adsense and I am reluctant to remove them, as are many people but maybe if I did I would see a higher click through rate to my affiliated products?
